Casting our gaze back to the NL West, this time it is over to Jordan Wynn for his Diamondbacks preview. Jordan manages the @DBacksUK Twitter handle, so give him a follow on there, and feel free to comment below.
It was a great season for D-backs fans last year honestly! We’d completely reversed our record from 69-93 to 93-69 and played some great baseball, our rotation was amazing – it was the heartbeat of the team especially Robbie Ray who broke out last year! The wildcard game against the Rockies was the most exciting game I have watched as a fan personally since becoming a baseball fan! Overall it was great turnaround for the team and it showed with Lovullo getting NL manager of the year!
Firstly coming of the back of a great season for the Diamondbacks there is a lot of excitement for the team this year and the experience gained for last year’s trip to the playoffs will really help the team! If the rotation can perform as well as it did last year and Robbie Ray can continue his outstanding performance from last year we will do great! The loss of JD will certainly hinder the team with his loss in the hitting column but I believe the new additions can hopefully step up and perform. The main issue at the moment is the choice of who the main closer is going to be, it seems a toss up between Archie Bradley who really wants a spot on the rotation or Brad Boxberger who could really do a job in closing this year. But this is a position that needs to be figured out before the season as it could lead to some issues when it comes to closing out games. Overall I think this could be a great season for the D-backs if the rotation can remain healthy and the new additions can step up then I think we’re in for another exciting season!
89-73 – I honestly believe with the experience of last year if all the right pieces can fall into place the Diamondbacks can do great this year! I think we will make the wildcard and I could see it happening again – losing the the Dodgers in the NLDS like last year.
Paul Goldschmidt! He has been the MVP for the team for the past couple years and he is very consistent year to year so I can see him getting it again!
One to watch
Taijuan Walker (P) He is young and has a lot of potential the experience of last year will really help him and he could really have a great year!
