New York Mets Midseason Review

Here with another midseason review, and this time it’s Les McCaughan (@Lez_Mets) on the woeful season so far from the Mets. You can keep up to date with the Mets all season long with @UKMetsOnline on Twitter or visit their website at www.ukmets.online.

How has it been so far?
What a year it’s been for the New York Mets. We started 2018 expecting to be challenging for a Wild Card spot, only for the team to come out of the blocks red hot. Rolling off 11 wins in their first 12 games including sweeps against Miami and Washington, fooling us into believing this could be a magical Mets summer. But how soon our hopes turned to despair!

Since that 11-1 start the Mets have quite frankly been the worst team in baseball, and at different parts of the season different areas of the team has let us down, culminating in one of the worst offensive team slumps in MLB history. Despite starting pitching keeping us in games the lineup has failed time and time again to provide run support, much to the detriment of Jacob DeGrom who has seen start after start leave him on the losing end, despite his Cy Young form!

Stars & Flops
Jacob DeGrom, like I said before, is in Cy Young form. And like we here at UKMets predicted during spring training, Brandon Nimmo has been a revelation. Sadly Jay Bruce has had a terrible first half, but he’s a big leaguer and do expect him to turn it around in the back end of the season. But it may be too late for the 2018 season!

Champagne Moment
Every Jacob DeGrom start, they are a masterclass even if he’s not got the run support. And the recent Brandon Nimmo inspired Fathers Day comeback in Arizona!

Revised W-L Total
I’m not much for revising Win/Loss totals, I said 85 to 90 at the start of the season because that’s what the minimum expectation is which still applies. But right now they’ll be lucky to break 70/75 wins at best. But before we worry about anything else they need to get back to .500 first!
