For the UK fan midseason review series I drafted in Rockies fan Lloyd White (@saintsfanwhitey) to update us on how things have gone so far this year in Colorado.
How has the season gone so far?
The Rockies entered the all-star game 3rd in the NL West but only two games behind the Dodgers, going 8-2 in the last ten games including a big series win against the d backs which has kept us in the divisional race. At times this season we have struggled with both starting and bullpen pitching, we put together a run nine games of quality starts for pitchers which is a franchise record. While also going 9 games at home of giving up 8 or more runs, something that hasn’t happened in the big leagues since the 1920s. I’m going to give the Rockies 7/10 for the first half of the season.
Stars and Flops
I’m going to pinpoint Denver native Kyle Freeland as one of the stars for me. In his 2nd season, he was 8-6 with an ERA of 3.11 and a home ERA of 2.76 at the break, which considering Coors is a hitter’s ballpark ain’t too shabby! He also led the club in WAR with 4.4. Notable mentions for first-time all-star Trevor story, reliever Adam Ottavino
and lefty Tyler Anderson.
Jon Gray has been poor this year with an ERA of 5.44 which saw him sent down to the minors to work on his pitching mechanics. Mentions also for Bryan Shaw and Jake McGee
Not many standout moments this year, but the biggest moment has to be the 19-2 win against the D- backs which helped us win the series.
With 50-odd games left and with the Rockies standing 58-50 I stand by my preview prediction of 89-73.
